For 2023 Exam Week
Dear Sixth Grade Parents, Today I gave details for the Edible Cell Project to the students in Science. During the exam week of December 11th the students will present a model of a cell using edible parts during their science class. They will present the model and turn in the worksheet for the grade (attached). The model needs to have a base that will represent the cytoplasm. An example would be a cake, brownie, bread, crust and so forth. They will use candies or other foods to represent the other parts of the cell. Not all parts need to be edible. The bowl or pie pan can represent the cell membrane or cell wall to help hold the model together. The size needs to be the size of a personal pan pizza or smaller. They will only eat their own model when we are finished. Sometimes, the models fall apart during the travel time to school so they may bring in the parts separately and put it together at the beginning of class. I will post the pages they need in Lion Access and my website, so they don’t need to take home their textbook of pages B18-19. Only those parts represented in the textbook need to be represented in the model. To get full credit, the student needs to turn in the worksheet which indicates what each food represents with the function of that cell part along with the model. I’m letting you know ahead of time because I realize that you may need to purchase some items that are not on your regular grocery list. If you have any further questions, let me know. Have a great day.
